Student Support

Going to any new place can be a challenge for us all. We realise this is a big step for some students as they adjust to a bigger school and perhaps living away from home for the first time. However, the opportunity to meet new friends and study different subjects is wonderful! Launceston College is also a very safe and supportive learning environment.

For some students though, there are times when more intensive support is needed. For these times, LC has a dedicated team of people who are able to provide this extra support.

Launceston College has a full time social worker who can assist students with personal issues which may affect their learning. Our social worker can provide support and counselling on issues that impact on students’ social and emotional wellbeing, for example, difficulties with accommodation, finance, transport, health and relationships.  Our social worker also works with students who require information about and/or referral to external agencies.

LC also has a highly qualified and experienced school psychologist who is available to work with students to complete assessments to determine learning support needs and the development of individual education plans.

Student Counsellors are available to assist students who may be experiencing difficulties engaging effectively in their studies due to personal problems or relationship difficulties. Counsellors can provide support and strategies to promote attendance and participation, address barriers to successful subject/program engagement and time management skills to assist effective study skills and exam preparation.

LC has a number of qualified first aid officers onsite at all times. Students can access the first aid facilities by presenting to the LC Library where there is a fully equipped first aid room.

College Breakfast Program

Research suggests that a healthy breakfast helps get you off to a good start every day! The LC Breakfast Program runs every morning and offers students a free and healthy breakfast.

The Student Support Team supervise this in the Undercroft area every day from 8.15am-8.45 am and students can have toast, spreads, juice or a hot drink.

How do I know what is happening across the College?

College communication screens, located at various places throughout the College, are constantly relaying information to students. The student portal, the Launceston College webpage, Facebook, Instagram, Schoolzine and email are also used to publicise events and assist communication between students and teachers.
